White & Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring

We sat down with Francesca and Charlie and asked them about their experience with us designing a bespoke engagement ring. We find out how they met, what the proposal was like, and what they thought of their time with Maya Magal.

With every bespoke jewellery experience at Maya Magal, we like to make sure we capture the individual personality of the client. We like to know as much as we can about the wearer, so we can make sure the ring has a personalised, unique feel to it. A bespoke piece of handmade jewellery, after all, must be one of a kind.

The Ring

This three stone handmade ring features a gorgeous asscher cut central white diamond with two triangle cut yellow diamonds on either side. It's so exciting when we get to design a piece of personalised jewellery with a customer like Francesca who already owns many of our designs.

More details on the ring

This handmade ring features a three stone setting. The three stones supposedly represent the past, present, and future, making them a great option for engagement rings.

The central diamond is an asscher cut white diamond. The asscher has 72 facets, drawing your eye to the centre and creating a hall of mirrors style effect. Elizabeth Taylor famously wore an asscher diamond that was a whopping 33.19 carats called the Krupp Diamond. It is a shape that really showcases the magic of diamonds.

The two diamonds that frame the central stone are small yellow triangle cut diamonds. Yellow diamonds can be found all over the world but primarily originate from South Africa. They can vary in colour intensity, from a pale yellow to a vibrant, vivid colour. The triangle cut is usually credited to the Asscher brothers in Amsterdam, who are also responsible for the asscher shape of the central stone.

How did they meet?

“We met on Hinge, the dating app…so romantic!”

Although Francesca and Charlie quickly realised that they were invited to the same wedding a few months later and that they had a few good mutual friends.

Luckily their friends did their best to remain calm and not put pressure on and by the time the wedding rolled around, Francesca and Charlie were referring to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend! They had also booked their first trip to Porto, so that month became known as “big October”!

“Our friends and family have been a huge part of making the last two years so excellent, and we are so excited to be able to celebrate with them now!”

The Proposal

Although the couple designed the handmade ring together, Charlie was determined to propose with it and surprise Francesca. He managed to surprise her in Bologna!

“It was throwing it down with rain but he found a beautiful private spot in the centre of town and afterwards we were able to enjoy a little engagement moon together in Italy.”

💕 How did you find the design process?

Charlie had already found Maya Magal the year before for Francesca’s birthday, and so when the time came to design a handmade ring together, Maya Magal’s personalised jewellery felt like the obvious choice.

“I love the use of different golds in the same designs and the jewellery feels very ‘me’.”
