Sustainability

Our core value is to ensure no jewellery ever goes to waste. That’s why our collections are designed with wearability in mind and they can be worn for years to come. Trends come and go, but our jewellery really is timeless!

We've made a promise to ourselves to continuously look for new ways to do better as a small business.
Our core value is to ensure no jewellery ever goes to waste, that’s why our collections are designed with wearability in mind, so they can be worn for years to come. Minimising waste and choosing high quality & durable materials to work with are a key part of our journey towards a more sustainable future.

Locally handcrafted

Our workshops are the beating heart of Maya Magal. Manufacturing in-house means we don't rely on international shipping, which significantly reduces our carbon footprint and allows us to do thorough quality checks throughout different stages of the process. Having an in-house team of jewellers means we can offer our everyday luxury collections at a fair price, as there’s no middlemen involved.

Recycled materials

All of our solid gold pieces are made by hand in our London workshops in 100% recycled gold. We recycle any off-cuts and scraps of gold ourselves to ensure no jewellery ever goes to waste. Moving to a full in-house manufacturing process for our silver collections, too, allows us to have more control over the materials used. In 2021, 70% of our new silver collections were handmade using 100% recycled silver.

Conflict-free Gemstones

All gemstones we work with are conflict-free, these are sourced and individually hand-picked by our founder Maya and studio design manager Nathan. As a small business, we are lucky to have the option to be selective with our suppliers, choosing family run businesses and local craftsmen to work with who not only have years of experience but also share our ecological beliefs. This ensures that our gemstones are sourced responsibly and in line with global regulations like the Kimberley Process. As our stones come from all across the world, we can provide a certification document outlining the origins of your unique stone upon request.

Repurposing Jewellery and Gemstones

We offer a repurposing service, where we give new life to unworn family heirlooms and vintage jewellery, and can also work with old-cut stones. This form of up-cycling gemstones and antique jewellery is the most sustainable and environmentally friendly way of jewellery making, as it reduces the demand for new metals and with that the carbon footprint.
