The history of wedding rings

Ancient Egyptians viewed rings as a representation of eternity due to their circular shape having no beginning or end. Through this belief the tradition of gifting rings between lovers began, with this custom eventually spreading to Ancient Greece and into Ancient Rome, where couples would exchange iron and copper rings as part of marriage ceremonies. While popular wedding band designs and metals have varied throughout time and cultures, the tradition of exchanging rings as part of the wedding day has remained.
