Meet Lucy
Bespoke Jeweller at Maya Magal
Designing bespoke engagement rings and heirloom pieces reimagined for a new chapter in our London studio.
The Bespoke Designer
I love working with all our clients, usually at really exciting times of their lives, creating unique pieces that are special to them and will be worn a lifetime.
I like letting the client write my brief. I love to ask all the questions you haven’t given thought to but help to ensure we are creating the perfect piece for each person. It’s all about their vision and I'm just the person making it a reality.
I love modern takes on timeless pieces and little details that bring interest in unexpected ways.
This is a hard question to answer because I love nearly everything I get to make. I love working with people, and as a bespoke designer you often do get to know the clients you work with quite well as we often work with them on engagement rings, wedding bands and if we’re lucky other custom pieces. I think my favourite designs end up being the ones where we’ve created a personal connection alongside a beautiful piece of jewellery.
I take a lot of inspiration from everyday objects. I find it’s a good place to find interesting textures, functional design attributes and general beauty. It’s also a good reminder that beauty is often right in front of you, it might just need a new frame.

Signature Style
Do you have favourite stones, settings or design details?
Everyone loves diamonds, with good reason. I also love sapphires because they are hard-wearing and come in nearly any colour you can imagine. I also love East-west oriented stones, a band with a subtle wave, a visible underbezel with prongs or a stone set with double talon claws. I could go on but I'll leave it there.
The Lucy Edit: Bespoke Commissions

Samie’s Ring
Katie and Samie came to us with a relatively open brief. Samie knew she wanted an emerald cut stone, but wasn’t sure if she wanted a green/teal sapphire or a brown diamond and wanted to explore the option of repurposing one of the diamonds from her mum’s engagement ring. After viewing stones with us she decided on a lab-grown 2.03ct brown diamond in 9ct yellow gold. This piece was so fun to design and create. We got to incorporate two different setting styles… a timeless bezel set on the diamond from her mum and a more modern visible underbezel with prongs on the lab-grown brown diamond.

Elena’s Ring
Elena came to us with a really clear idea of what she wanted. It was just a matter of finding the right diamonds…. a 3.01ct lab grown diamond flanked by tapered baguettes. I ended up handmaking this ring in 18ct yellow gold. Elena came back to us for wedding bands and the stack she ended up with was incredibly stunning.

Abi’s Ring
Abi selected this gorgeous 2.04ct oval green sapphire when she came to our bespoke studio to create her engagement ring. We ended up housing it in 9ct gold with an asymmetric arrangement of diamonds… 3 small rounds on one side and 1 larger diamond on the other. It’s still such a balanced design but the asymmetrical diamonds made it such a unique piece.

Personal Jewellery Style
What jewellery do you wear every day?
I’m an earring girl - as they are the least likely thing to become a hazard while I'm working at the jewellery bench. I also have quite a few piercings. I love my Maya Magal Signature Hoop Earrings and the Solid gold Oval Hoop Earrings, as I can put them on and forget about them but they always make me feel a little bit more put together.
Is there a piece you wear that has personal meaning?
During the pandemic, my parents commissioned the jeweller who trained me to create a special bangle for me. At a time when I felt so far away from my family, this piece engraved with all of their initials, helped me feel much closer to them.
